A group of British engineers have built a robot that can adapt to changes to its body by mimicking the evolutionary traits found in the natural world (the engineers’ Web site can be found here). It sounds cool, but how far off is the robot apocalypse if we stay on this road?
Personally, I like it better when scientists build robots that do more mundane things. For example, there is the Roomba, the hapless little disc that clumsily tries to vacuum rooms and terrify cats. Or, there is the sweating robot built by Swiss scientists.
